
Peter Solomon - Horn

Currently Principal Horn of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Peter Solomon has performed to great acclaim all over the world. Prior to his appointment in Shanghai, he was the Principal Horn of the Daegu (S. Korea) Symphony Orchestra as well as the Atlantic and New Bedford Symphonies. He has performed in the horn section of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra.. He has also served as Guest Principal Horn of the Seoul Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Emmanuel Music, the Hamburg Kamerata and the New Hampshire Music Festival. He has worked under many noted conductors such as David Zinman, Edo de Waart, Sir Neville Marriner, Alan Gilbert, Long Yu, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniel Harding, Jaap van Zweden and Manfred Honeck to name just a few. He has recorded on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and also recorded with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Albany Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Solomon is sought out as a teacher by students from all over Asia. He is Horn Faculty at the Shanghai Orchestra Academy where to date every single one of his students has won a professional orchestra audition. His high school students have been admitted to prestigious American Conservatories and Universities such as The Juilliard School (NY), the Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory and Northwestern University. He has also held the positions of Professor of Horn at Keimyung (S. Korea) University, Adjunct Faculty at Northeastern University, and Horn Faculty at the Dana Hall School of Music.
Mr. Solomon holds a BM in Horn Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music where he was awarded the George Chadwick Medal as top undergraduate performer and student. He also holds a BA in English from Tufts University. His principal teachers include James Sommerville, Gus Sebring, Daniel Katzen, Jean Rife, Anne Scharer, Amy Emelianoff and Michael Hoeltzel.
