Scott Bell - Oboe

-Faculty, Carnegie Mellon University (Starting Fall 2025)

-Former Oboist, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
-Former Faculty, Tianjin Juilliard School

Oboist Scott Bell was born in Fairfield, Iowa and began playing the oboe in the public school band program.  He later attended the Interlochen Arts Academy then the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with renowned oboist John Mack.  In 1982, Bell became the first oboist to win first prize in the Fernand Gillet International Competition sponsored by the International Double Reed Society.   Since then, he enjoyed a long orchestral and solo career.  He has been a member of New Orleans Symphony, the Hartford Symphony and the Grammy Winning Pittsburgh Symphony. He has appeared in concerts in six continents.

In 2019, Mr. Bell joined the inaugural faculty of the Tianjin Juilliard School where he appeared in concerts and gave master classes in several venues throughout Asia.

In 2025, Mr. Bell will start teach at Carnegie Mellon University.​

​

​Outside of music, Mr. Bell is an enthusiastic bridge player and is working his way up the ranks in competitive bridge.
